Singer-Songwriter Sierra Noble Talks Fiddling and Fashion

Sierra Noble is living proof that, as she says, “Whatever you put out to the universe comes back to you.” The 22-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter grew up as a huge Beatles fan and one day found herself, incredibly, opening for Sir Paul McCartney at one of his Nova Scotia shows.
ELLE.com chatted with Noble, who writes her own lyrics and music, plays acoustic guitar and fiddle, and sings shimmering harmonies with her backup band,louis vuitton official website, earlier this week after her Rockwood Music Hall gig on NYC’s Lower East Side. Despite the frosty evening outside, Noble created a warm, cozy atmosphere at the intimate venue. Her nine-song set included the luminous “Go There,” a soulful “I Can See,” and the haunting, powerful “Deep Sea Diver,” which she played wearing a feminine lacy top over a black tank, jeans, and boots. Her style is a mix of luxe boho and kick-ass rocker, she says. “There’s my flowy, girly, summery dresses side, kind of hippie. But I’m also a rocker at heart, so there’s always lots of black.”
Noble radiates joy when discussing her love of music. “Music has an incredible door-opening ability to connect one person to another, or to many people,” she says. “I feel so lucky to be able to connect to people in such a personal way.”
As a child,シャネル バッグ, Noble found herself drawn to violin and Old-time fiddle music. “As soon as I heard it, I knew that was where my soul belonged,” she says. She began forging her completely unique blend of blues, country, folk and rock and started playing at small festivals at age 10. “I don’t want my career to be put into one category. Of course, every album needs a certain direction to be a cohesive piece of art, just like a visual art installation.”

In 2005, Noble released an album of instrumental fiddle music, then debuted her six song EP, Possibilities, in 2008. Her first single, the EP’s namesake, “Possibility,” blew up on Canadian charts. Noble recalls the first time she heard her song played on the radio: “I was in Winnipeg and turned on a radio station that I never thought would play it; it was a pop station. I’m a fiddle player! I was ‘fiddle girl’ in junior high.”
The singer-songwriter is currently working on her new album, which drops in April 2013, with producer Russ Titelman (who has collaborated with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Cyndi Lauper, Randy Newman, and James Taylor) and several Nashville artists. However, this week’s performance was only a stone’s throw away (give or take) from her current home base: She now lives in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and loves hanging out with her musician pals at the Rockwood, The Living Room, “and wherever the music takes us.” Get an exclusive free download of her music, below.
